Happy New Year 2018

First of all, I’d like to wish you all a very Happy New Year and may you have a wonderful 2018. Yes, I know it’s very late, but better late than never, right? By the way, we have been back from Japan almost three weeks now but haven’t got time to work on travel posts and videos. It’s the holiday season where lots of catching up happened, but also we have family guests visiting.

A brief summary of our Japan and short Hong Kong trip was it was awesome, especially Japan. And I totally get it how a lot of people who had visited Japan kept on going back. We would love to do that, too! It might have something to do with being in an absolute new place, new experience, trying to figure out the transportation system and understanding the languages – that it became really exciting. Also not to mention some exciting alleys you discovered when you got lost – places you wouldn’t know how to go back to once you have access to internet. But, above all we enjoyed the cuisines much, from street food, depachika, convenience food, ekiben, to the famous kobe beef. Those were the times I felt truly alive, do anyone else feel that way about travelling?

Anyway, I am thinking to split the posts about our trip into these list below. Then, a hyperlink will be added to each bullet point once it is posted, and hopefully won’t be too long now.

Our Japan and Hong Kong trip itinerary looks like these:

So, see you soon in the next posts on our Japan trip 🙂

How my blog started?

I started this blog a little over a year ago. There were several factors that drove me to started this blog. I like reading other people blogs about cooking or baking and mainly travel stories. Being lazy, I used to bookmark recipe posts I wished to make one day – but over the time those links changed and I lost a lot of those bookmarks and never could find them again 🙁 Then one day, it just came to me why not I start my own blog – where I can actually post recipes that I have tried? I can share with my readers any tips I have pick up here and there and might be a benefit for others.

As for travel, as much as I love doing that, unfortunately we cannot afford doing it more often. What I love about travelling is mainly trying the local cuisines (as you can probably tell by now how much we love food hehehe). I would share our journeys along with how we felt about it.

Every now and then you will also see my posts on soap making or any odd simple craft projects or gardening attempts (or might I say, fails :P)

Two pieces of advice to new bloggers:

I definitely no expert and still learning to be better at this and here are my two cents. A super long post often confuses me, especially if it’s all writings. It is better to have few pictures and try not to write too long in a single post.

Another tip is that do blogging because you enjoy doing it. Remember that whilst it’s an online world where you barely know your fellow bloggers in person; it is always good to be kind and respective to others 🙂

And here are my nominations for the Blogger Recognition Award (in no particular order):

  1. Coklat dan Hujan
  2. Cooking without Limits
  3. Eris
  4. Give Me Meatloaf
  5. Healthy Food Recipe
  6. Joji, Myohmyjojo
  7. Kcijoel
  8. Khadija
  9. Ndayeng
  10. Schnippelboy
  11. Simply My Corner
  12. Voice of A Thoughtful Mind
  13. Wanderlust – A New Chapter
  14. Yenny Widjaya
  15. You Betcha Can Make This

I thank you fellow bloggers for inspiring me 🙂

Bye Bye 2016 and Welcome 2017

It is now 7.51 pm Sydney time when I started this post, only couple hours left of this 2016 year. I was having dinner and suddenly it occurred to me I should do a last post for 2016 counting all the blessings we received in 2016. As much sad news we have seen in 2016, I am trying not to ponder over these failures, loss or missed opportunities.

So, here it is:

  • Being given another year of life to experience so much more this year
  • A generally healthy year for all the family
  • Mom’s visit was a highlight, the last time she came was almost 6 years ago
  • Brother’s wedding
  • New job
  • New friends/colleagues
  • Better pay
  • Moving to new suburb
  • Short course on online writing
  • Bali and Melbourne trip, hopefully we can do more in 2017 and new destinations!
  • Tried many new restaurants, new food ლ(´ڡ`ლ)
  • A bit better on blogging, definitely aim to be better next year ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ
  • A better and organised utilization of private health cover
  • Most of all, I am super thankful for hubby!❤️❤️❤️

So bye bye 2016 with all the happiness and sadness we have experienced through and all the lessons we learned…

And we wish you a very Happy New Year 2017, may it be an even happier, better, and prosperous year to you all…

Lastly, a beautiful (yet very true) quote from New Year’s Eve movie (2011):

Sam: “Sometimes it feels like there are so many things in this world we can’t control. Earthquakes, floods, reality shows. But it’s important to remember the things that we can. Like forgiveness, second chances, fresh starts. Because the one thing that turns the world from the longing place to a beautiful place is love. Love and any of its forms. Love gives us hope. Hope for the New Year. That’s what New Year’s Eve is to me. Hope and a great party!”  (IMDB)
