La Floraison, Sydney CBD

La Floraison

The main reason we came to La Floraison was for their creative custom printing on drinks. It is located in Sydney CDB, very close to Townhall Station which is great location and easily reached. Honestly, I never heard of this place before I saw pictures of those cute drinks which then prompted me to look for their address and made the trip eventually.

So we came here on a Saturday morning only to find that they open from 12 noon. I thought this is a little odd considering this is cafe and people do get the drinks in the morning or at the very least during brunch hours. So we had to kill some time walking around Daiso (luckily just few doors away) for the open time. In that time, we noticed there was also another small family did what we did – came here way too early.

As they opened and we lined up at the cashier for order, I realised this place really must be alive mainly for their drinks. There were just a few cakes available on display, literally mean just a few. The lady in front of me was asking if they had such cake from the menu and was told they had run out. Anyway, I ended up getting a piece of cake to share and a hot drink for each of us. Upon payment, they will ask what design you would like to have on top of your drink. You can choose from numerous pictures available on the tablet and even send your picture to them as well.

La Floraison
The entrance – I think the decor is very pretty with flowers and hanging lights – fairy tale alike!

Here are what we ordered:

La Floraison
Red Velvet Cake

La Floraison
Taro Latte with Gudetama print

La Floraison
Matcha Latte with Sinchan print

The drinks were not bad taste wise, but the cake was dry and felt like it’s been sitting there for too long. We love how the drinks are not overly sweet and can absolutely taste the taro or matcha flavours. Also their price point is fairly expensive – but I guess you pay for the experience. After all, we enjoyed slurping the printed Gudetama and Sinchan over our hot drinks 🙂 Would I be coming back? Perhaps no, mainly because we have already experienced it and apart from the print, everything else was not outstanding.

Platform Eighty Two, Concord West

Platform 82

Another cafe that we have often passed in these past couple of years and always have a big line outside. We even tried to go there before and got turned off because of the wait. But we made it there few weeks ago, went there before 10 am to avoid the brunch peak hours on Saturday.

Located in the heart of Concord West and very close to its train station, this little cafe often digs our curiosity. It seems they are serving big breakfast type of meals, pancakes and drinks. And yet, people always flock in here even after years it opened its door. A quick search on this place shows numerous pictures of huge platter of big breakfast on tiered settings. Almost like how they serve high tea, but instead of tiny elegant plates, they use a massive wooden board platters.

And of course we have to order the breakfast platter, here are the pictures of what we had:

Platform 82 - Gabriel Coffee

The breakfast platter for 2, we upgraded the waffle to pancake with ice cream for an extra $2 per person
And the verdict…

We feel Platform Eighty Two is a little overrated in term of queuing. It is not exactly cheap brunch, but don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of food served for 2 people. Eggs are served in three ways (scrambled, sunny side up, and poached). Generous amount of button mushroom, bacon and salami. Love the avocado with feta cheese and hash browns 🙂 No regret on upgrading the dessert to pancake, very delicious! I feel this is a nice place for get together with  few people, it is fun, and very instagram-able, right? But make sure to make a reservation ahead if you are coming in groups, just to be sure you will get a table with no long wait. Also, thumbs up for the coffee, very smooth!

Four Frogs Creperie, Circular Quay Sydney

We just had the beautiful warm winter days in this past weekend, such a nice weather for a walk around city. After lunch, we headed to Circular Quay, revisiting this creperie shop. Been wanting to get hubby to try their crepe for a while and finally get to do it this time.

Located in the front side of (fairly) new revamped Gateway food court in Circular Quay, Four Frogs Creperie is hard to miss. On the front seating area, you can look out to people walking by surrounding the Circular Quay ferry wharf. This would have been a nice spot in the morning or evening, not so much in the afternoon due to direct afternoon sun exposure. Since we went there in the afternoon, we opted to sit inside – not much view but it was cozy enough.

The first time I came here, I was amazed with their Crepes On Fire menu. For the same reason, I asked hubby to choose one from that section. It sure did not disappoint, they came with a bit of theatrical presentation and more importantly, they also taste great! They also have some interesting French ciders on the menu, I guess we just have to try next time we go there.

This is how the waiter brought our orders:

And here are what they look like after that short theatrical show:

Chocolate, vanilla ice cream and Grand Marnier

Crepe Suzette

They are both absolutely a delicious – the crepes are so smooth and buttery. The sauce are as lovely and not sickly sweet, and don’t taste like artificial flavors. I adore the crepe suzette as the orange sauce and pieces cut down the sweet sauce and the grand marnier really pair wonderfully. Whereas hubby being a chocolate lovers, still keep on saying how good his crepe was a day later 😛

Cumulus Inc, Melbourne

As I do posts about our Melbourne trip, I only realised how many of the places we had gone to were the ones people rave about. Thanks to Zomato, we had made it quite a few on the list. And this next post is about Cumulus Inc, thanks to my cousin and Zomato again 🙂

Located close to the hotel we were staying at, we hoped by going there on week day at 9 would be not so packed. I imagine, the office workers would have been busy at work, right? And of course, we were wrong! It was packed!!!And not just the take away lines, the whole place is packed with people having breakfast. And that raises the question in our mind: so, what time do these people actually start working? ( ⚆ _ ⚆ )

Thankfully it was not a long wait for seating on long sharing bench, which we did not mind at all. We mostly knew already what to order, so did not spend long browsing on the menu this time. It took a while for our order to come, but again thankfully for the seating, we can see one of the chef prepared breakfast orders. That was awesome, we enjoyed seeing her work, how fast and smooth she did one after one after one order.

Anyway, I ordered their housemade crumpets while hubby got their full English breakfast. Don’t they look lovely?

The housemade crumpets were lovely, golden crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. It pairs deliciously with that ricotta and honey. It is a perfect dish to me and hubby agreed as well. Hubby said his full breakfast was also yummy – it is not overly greasy but tasty. And the blood sausage was actually good, he says.

After breakfast, we walked around and found ourselves needed another caffeine kick – so we went to League of Honest Coffee. We actually went to this place last year but it was closed, so it”s great to see it open and busy this time. My understanding is they also uses coffee bean from Padre, the Seasonal Blend. And of course, it is so good!!! I can confidently say that my favourite coffee is from Padre – loving both their Seasonal and Daddy’s Girl (DG) Espresso Blend. The seasonal blend is more of toffee notes, rich and full bodied. The DG blend is more mild in acidity and creamy. DG is the one used in Hardware Societe, which I am also a big fan of their coffees.

The bustle and bustle during morning tea (or coffee) break
It is truly bean the best of times!

St Ali Coffee Roasters, South Melbourne

My cousin recommended us to try the iced filtered coffee at St Ali Coffee Roasters, which she spoken of highly. So, after our burger meal on a very nice Saturday, we headed to South Melbourne. It didn’t take long to get there by tram and a short stroll in the area. Even though the distance is not at all that far from CBD, South Melbourne surely has a different vibe. It is a lovely area, laid back and has so many local shops that offers many interesting items. And of course, all the hidden little shops inside those little lanes also can be found in the area.

St Ali is located in another alley, inside a looks-alike-ex-warehouse building. Once you entered the door, it is actually much spacious than it looks from the outside. There are crowds of people, graffiti on the walls, and smell of coffee and delicious looking cake displays near the cashier.

And as per the recommendation, we tried their iced filtered coffee, flat white and one of their yummy cake. The food menu actually looks very appetising and delicious, but unfortunately for us who just had our lunch, therefore the cake.

The recommended ice filtered coffee in bottle
Flat white
I think this is the black forest cake

I personally am not a big fan of the filtered coffee because it has that acidic after taste. But it sure is refreshing for that hot sunny weather. On the other hand, hubby thinks the filter coffee is great. I, however, love the flat white – smooth and slightly fruity.

From there, we walked to South Melbourne Market and it was delightful. A huge building, with many shops and stalls and so many people. A lot of the products sold here are local produce, or made by local artists/designers – everything are just exciting! And there is also the Padre Coffee stall there, which I really love their coffee. So of course, we had to buy couple bags of their coffee beans to bring home 🙂
