Hydroponic Project – update 4

DAY 20

Another brief update on my hydroponic project:

  • the shallots grow fast! I have put another shallot root to the same plastic bottle
  • I moved the tiny chilli sprouts to new plastic bottles, they show very slow developments. Not sure whether this is normal, or have I overcrowd the container with two sprouts each? Or, maybe the nutrient is not right? I guess we’ll find out later how they will grow

Hydroponic Project – Update 3

hydroponic day 9

A short update on my hydroponic project.

I have stuck a root part of shallot to the plastic bottle thinking that my chilli seeds will not germinate in it, and it such a surprise to find a tiny sprout coming out this morning. The shallot also looks good or at least it isn’t dying as far as I can tell 🙂

Now I will need to prepare more plastic bottles for transfering those little chilli sprouts in to when they are a little more bigger.

Hydroponic Project – Update 2

Please read here for my initial research here and first update in here.

It has been five days since I put few chilli seeds in the plastic bottle hydroponic and everyday I have looked into the piles of perlite only to find not any living signs whatsoever. So I started research on this again, how to start germinate chilli seeds to be used in hydroponic and stumbled on a post about germinate the seeds in wet facial cotton pads. It claims that within 24 hours you should be able to see some developments.

Came home from work, I tried to dig in to the perlite with a toothpick to find those little seeds. I found three out of the five I put into the perlite, in fact 2 of them have sprouted tiny little roots! Ah well, just transfer them all in to the wet cotton pads. I also added two more, just in case those three will not going to survive.

Here are the pictures:

Update day 6:

When I checked on them this morning, one of those which had sprouted tiny roots yesterday has shown more growth 😀  I am curious to find out how the other seeds are going, whether they are going to live as well.

More updates to come, fella!

Simple Hydroponic with Plastic Bottles – to be updated

A while ago, one of my friends’ posted on her facebook page about simple hydroponic using plastic bottles and just some simple growth medium to grow lettuce in house. Ever since reading that post, I have been wanted to give it a go mainly due to the fact it doesn’t use soil hence less problems with pests, also my apartment can definitely accommodate this space-efficient system without backyard. And no, I am not growing marijuana or any thing illegal at home, just want to try grow some lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and and chilli 🙂 Wouldn’t it be really satisfying to cook up something from your own harvest.

I haven’t started doing anything in regards to this project, apart from saving up few plastic bottles and research on what nutrients I needed, whether my local Bunnings carry those, and what are the alternatives. Me being clueless about gardening, got so confused with all the options nutrients out there (there are really a lot to choose from). So, we are planning to pay a visit to Bunnings this Sunday and hopefully I’ll find everything I need then I can get started with this project.

Have you readers done this? Any advises and pointers are welcome 🙂

Update coming soon (hopefully…)!

DIY Honey Oatmilk Soap

Since my first trial with CP soap (DIY Caffeinated Soap) and it ended up great, I am more keen to try on other recipes. And when I stumbled on this honey and oat milk soap recipe, I knew I just couldn’t go pass it. Honey is well-known for its anti-bacterial benefit, packed with anti oxidants and can help with clarifying pores. Oatmeal has anti-inflammatory properties hence is really good for sensitive skin, moisturising, helps treat acne, eczema, and rashes. I can only imagine how good the soap be if I can include those two super ingredients together.
