Restaurant Review – Sukjai Thai, Sydney

This is a late review on Sukjai Thai Restaurant located in Pitt St, Sydney. A little restaurant that we often passed by but had never had a chance to try until last week when we had dinner for my brother’s birthday dinner. Overall dining experience is good, their food tend to be on the spicy side (which is great!), service is a little slow (I think there were only 2 waitresses around to tend half-full restaurant). They have interesting and colourful decor throughout the restaurant, every table has different chairs where some look much more comfortable than others 😀

Here are what we ordered:

1. Pad Thai: we didn’t mention spicy when ordering but it came out spicy and I really mean it, it’s HOT in a good way. It’s a really good dish and not too sweet like many other places. You might want to ask for not spicy if you don’t like spicy food.

2. Stir Fried Kangkung with Roast Pork Belly: another favorite of the night. It actually tastes very similar to tumis kangkung belacan like we have in Indonesia with generous slices of roast pork belly on top. Mind you the pork belly pieces are not crispy but  they are good and full of flavour. This dish is not as spicy as the pad thai, just mildly spicy.

3. Crispy Duck with Plum Sauce: this the highlight of our meal. The meat is tender, flavoursome, and the skin is crispy. There are really generous amount of duck on the dish, placed on top of some vegies and sweet plum sauce. My husband feels the sauce is too sweet for his liking, but he absolutely adores the duck. I must admit this would be the have-to-order dish if you come down here.

4. Papaya Salad: super spicy and too fishy to our liking. There are pieces of pork cracklings mixed in the salad which gives a nice texture, also lots of chopped chillies in there for the heat. We all had only one or two bites and didn’t finish it.

We did have a lovely meal in here, except for the papaya salad, which also happened to come out last after we almost finished all other dishes. Would we come back again? YES, absolutely!
