Restaurant Review – Green Peppercorn in Sydney CBD branch

We all agree that Green Peppercorn serves really good Thai food. We’ve come to this place probably five times in the last 3 months, that ought to say how we love it!

We came here again last night for Chinese New Year Eve dinner with hubby, my brother and his girlfriend. I made reservation a day ahead thinking that it might be busy but turned out when we got there at 6.30 pm it wasn’t busy at all. There were only four other groups in the restaurant, I guess 6.30 pm is kinda early for dinner anyway.

Here are what we had last night:

I love every single one of the above, but if I to choose one to be my most favorite, it would be the Banana Flower Salad. It is just unique, with very light, tangy dressing, pieces of deep-fried flour-coated chicken and roasted cashews scattered all over, and dash of coconut cream on top.

My husband’s favorite is the Roast Duck Red Curry, the duck is tender and juicy, the red curry tastes really good too, perfectly balanced between the saltiness, sweetness from the lychee, hint of spice, and creaminess from the coconut milk.

The Crispy Snapper with Green Mango Salad is also refreshing dish, pieces of deep-fried fish laid on top of the fish bone then topped with a lot julianne-cuts of green mango, green apple, carrot, and onion. The sauce is also the tangy kind, similar to the Banana Flower Salad’s dressing, but without the coconut cream.

Soft Shell Crab is nice and crispy, no fishy taste at all, lovely! Everytime we come here, we always order these same three dishes: Soft Shell Crab, Roast Duck Red Curry and the Banana Flower Salad.

We treated ourselves a nice dessert to share: Apple Pie with Custard Sauce (they called it something else which I cannot remember now). It looks pretty, ain’t it? The apple pie is made of puff pastry and the light apple filling has subtle hint of cinnamon. Generous amount of rich custard sauce is poured around the apple pie, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and three pieces of apple crisp. Although it sounds like combination of all very sweet stuffs, this dish is actually not too sweet. Maybe the sourness of the apple actually cut through the sweet custard sauce and vanilla ice cream.

At the end of the day, sugar overloaded and very happy tummy! 😀
